Kia Wins Four Design Awards in New Automotive Brand Contest

2011-07-26_1559
Kia is proud to announce that the company has been recognized in Germany for three of our products: the Sportage, the Optima and the all-new Rio. Kia Motors is one of the main winners in the first-ever Automotive Brand Contest.

In the automotive industry, the brand and the brand design are the two most important factors in winning consumers’ hearts.

The Rat für Formgebung (http://bit.ly/1xJ8hH, German Design Council) has decided to recognize this fundamental importance of brand and brand design by organizing the first international brand and design award for the automobile industry. The contest, known as the “Automotive Brand Contest 2011,” honors outstanding achievements of carmakers in the categories of brand management, brand communication and design. The focus is on the integral and consistent use of the brand across all media and its actual products.

The judging panel of the first Automotive Brand Contest declared Kia Motors the worthy winner in two categories. In the “Brand Design” category, where strategy and focus of the brand’s overall design is rated, Kia was recognized as the “Best of the Best.”

For the “Exterior” category, in which the vehicle design itself is the main focus, three Kia models were picked as winners: the compact Sportage CUV, the upcoming Rio B-segment model and the all-new, athletic D-segment Kia Optima sedan. The Kia Optima and Kia Sportage have received prestigious design awards in the past, including the Red Dot Award (Kia Optima: “Best of the Best”) and the iF Product Design Award.
The ceremony will be held on Sep. 13, 2011 in Frankfurt at the Internationale Automobil Ausstellung (IAA), one of the world’s largest automobile fair.

Mr Bean breaks records on Top Gear track

759112-atkinson-large
WHO knew Mr Bean had it in him?

British funnyman Rowan Atkinson has set a new record on Top Gear's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment, behind the wheel of a humble Kia.

His time of 1:42.2 seconds beat previous record holder and fellow comedian John Bishop's 1:42.8 lap by more than half a second. He was well ahead of the previous record holder Tom Cruise, who clocked 1:44.2.

Atkinson races an historic Ford Falcon in amateur events in the UK. He has also raced an Aston Martin V8 Zagato and a Renault G GT Turbo. He is the owner of a McLaren F1, which he has lent to Top Gear in a previous episode.

It was his first appearance on the show, and he admitted he was shy to take part because viewers would assume he'd be quick. His driving style earned praise from host Jeremy Clarkson.

"What is interesting is all your times were very consistent, as is the mark of a great racing driver. Turns out you're in the wrong career," he said.

Kia V-8-Powered Coupe Concepts Coming to Detroit, Frankfurt

Kia-kee-concept-623x389
What’s Korean for pony car? According to a recent report from the U.K. publication What Car?, Kia is set to step into the spotlight at  the coming Frankfurt and Detroit auto shows with—get this—two separate rear-wheel drive, V-8 powered coupe concepts.

Ever since Hyundai revealed the Genesis coupe, rumors have been flying about the possibility of Kia getting a similar car for its lineup (the 2007 Kia Kee concept is pictured and the new concepts will likely bear no resemblance to it), but it looks as though Kia wants to take it a step further. According to What Car?, Kia head Hank Lee admitted the need for something like a powerful, V-8 coupe, saying the company needs halo model to draw more customers into its showrooms. As the Genesis coupe has, a Kia sport coupe could provide a challenger for the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger, or it could also potentially be positioned to rival luxury sport coupes.

It is possible the Kia coupe concepts will be based off of the long-rumored, rear-drive K9 sedan that is expected to slot above the Optima in the Kia lineup. The K9, which is coincidently also supposed to debut at this year’s Frankfurt show, is expected to make its production debut sometime in 2012.

As for what’s powering the two new Kia coupe concepts, the likely answer is a version of the Tau V-8. While the Hyundai Genesis and Equus can be paired with either the 4.6 or the new direct-injected 5.0-liter version of the Tau, Kia has only used the 4.6-liter in the past under the hood of the Borrego SUV. Kia representatives told What Car? that the company will closely gauge reaction to the concepts to help determine the direction of any future production model.

While we won’t know more about the Kia coupe concepts until the runup to September’s Frankfurt and January’s Detroit shows, we want to know what you think of Kia’s rumored plans. Should a Kia V-8, rear-drive coupe take on Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers, or should it go in a different direction? How much horsepower should it make if they built one?

New Kia Picanto with LPG drive

12
The new Kia Picanto is now available with LPG drive can be ordered. This will complete Kia line, the motorization of the new small car that has come onto the market in May 2011. Like the two available gasoline versions (1.0 and 1.2 liter) is also the Picanto 1.0 LPG from a highly efficient engine of the “Kappa” series driven. The three-cylinder engine develops 82 hp, a top speed of 156 kilometers per hour and allows, in combination with the optional start-stop system, a CO2 emission of 90 grams per kilometer (15-inch wheels: 95 g / km). Thus, the LPG engine, the most environmentally friendly engine for the new Picanto . It comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission. The starting price for the three-door Picanto 1.0 LPG is € 10 930, € 11 330 for the five-door model. Deliveries will start in October.

Picanto 1.0 LPG with start-stop system consumes an average of 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers LPG , which costs about half as much as gasoline. Thus, the LPG version is in fuel costs by up to 30 percent below the already highly economical 1.0-petrol (average consumption of 4.1 liters of gasoline per 100 km). The tax breaks for LPG – even gas car named – until the end of 2018 enshrined in law.

In Europe the environmentally friendly gasoline alternative is strong and there is now a very tight supply network. To take customer concerns, find in each country in time to a LPG filling station that owns the Picanto 1.0 LPG in addition to the 35 liter LPG tank in addition a 10-liter tank of gasoline. This allows the driver to travel another 150 miles, if the LPG runs out. The entire vehicle applies to the factory installed LPG system, the Kia’s comprehensive warranty of 7 years or 150,000 miles.

The new Picanto will be 3.60 meter long. In the front view, he conveys the same vitality as its bigger brothers Venga and Sportage.

The interior, stylish and functional, offers an unusually for this class high quality material and benefits from the larger dimensions of the second generation model: The driver and passenger legroom has grown by 36 millimeters, the much larger luggage compartment holds 200 liters now.

With its three equipment versions ATTRACT, VISION and SPIRIT, the new Picanto complete comfort, from daytime running lights, cruise control and comfort indicator (standard in ATTRACT) over central locking, electric front windows and height-adjustable driver’s seat (standard in VISION) to air conditioning, audio system, electric folding exterior door mirrors and 15-inch alloy wheels (standard in SPIRIT top version). Optional are also amenities such as heated front seats, automatic climate control and dusk sensor available.

The basis for the comprehensive occupant protection is the rigid body, which consists in large part from high-strength steel and has been specially reinforced in key areas. The standard six airbags and a knee airbag for the driver and active head restraints (both series in SPIRIT) will enjoy the maximum passive protection, while the effective brake system with standard brake assist and electronic stability control (standard in SPIRIT, optional for VISION) is a high active safety level.

Another happy customer due to Jim's excellent customer service!

5 Star Review on Insider Pages -

A wonderful experience!

Claudia L.

Jim Hamman helped us with the purchase of our new KIA Soul and he was super! He made it quick and easy -- my husband said it was the best car-buying experience he's ever had. Jim came in on his day off to get the job done and had everything lined up so that it went like clockwork. The car is fabulous and everyone that we met at the dealership was great. I would go back in a heartbeat and am so happy I found Jim and Broadway KIA.
