KIA RACING DRIVERS MOVE AHEAD IN CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS FOLLOWING STRONG FINISH IN ROUND THREE OF THE PIRELLI WORLD CHALLENGE AT LONG BEACH PRESENTED BY KIA

LONG BEACH, Calif., April 22, 2013 – Just up the road from its U.S.-corporate headquarters in Irvine, Calif., Kia Racing gave its fans reason to cheer loudly with a top-five finish in Round 3 of the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) at Long Beach presented by Kia.  Wilkins, whose turbocharged Kia Optima got faster with each passing lap, was stalking the fourth-placed Aston Martin late in the contest, but his bid for a podium finish was thwarted when the 50-minute sprint race ended under caution.  The top-five finish marks the second in a row for Kia Racing and moves both drivers into the top five in driver championship points heading into Round 4 at Circuit of the Americas next month.  By virtue of the strong performance, Kia held station in third in the manufacturer championship.

“The Kinetic crew made a lot of progress on the car, and at the end of the race we were definitely faster than the Aston Martin in front of us.  We just ran out of time to make a move,” said Wilkins.  “It’s great to come out here to Long Beach and race in front of all of the Kia team members and to meet so many great people who support the racing program.”

Wilkins’ teammate, Nic Jönsson, charged through the field in his No. 36 turbocharged Optima to finish in seventh place, an impressive feat considering he started at the back of the pack in 24th place after replacing an engine following a turbo issue in the morning qualifying session.  Jonsson’s strong finish allowed him to advance from seventh to fifth in the driver championship standings.

“We definitely had some hurdles to overcome this weekend, but I’m proud of the crew for doing an amazing job getting the No. 36 Optima into race condition after our troubles in qualifying Sunday morning,” said Jönsson.  “To come away from a brutal and demanding track like Long Beach with two top-ten finishes and come pretty close to putting Kia Racing back on the podium for their home race is just fantastic, and now we can turn our focus to Circuit of the Americas next month.”

On Friday, coinciding with the Pirelli World Challenge at Long Beach presented by Kia, was the introduction of the No. 36 turbocharged Optima racing machine into Cie Games’ Car Town, a leading social game on the Facebook platform, which allows its nearly 50 million lifetime players to collect and customize virtual cars in garages of their own design and participate in challenges.

2013 Kia Forte Named in WardsAuto's 10 Best Interiors of 2013

Penton's leading automotive brand unveils annual list of best car interiors; to be celebrated at upcoming WardsAuto Interiors Conference

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2013 "Ward's 10 Best Interiors" list was announced today, and it features a wide range of automobile types and sticker prices, including several models that prove a buyer doesn't have to break the bank to drive in luxury and style.

WardsAuto editors selected the top passenger compartments after spending February and March evaluating 46 vehicles that were all-new or sported interiors that have been significantly upgraded. The winners will be recognized during a special ceremony at the WardsAuto Interiors Conference being held May 22 at The Henry hotel in Dearborn, MI.

To determine the winners, editors drive the vehicles during their routine commutes and submit score sheets ranking each auto interior based on several criteria, including materials, ergonomics, comfort, safety, value, fit-and-finish and overall design. Scores also are applied based on the user-friendliness of the human-machine interface and the ability to link mobile phones and access vehicle information. Video reviews and photo galleries of evaluated vehicles may be found at http://wardsauto.com, and full write-ups on each winner will post on April 29.

The ceremony will include a live video review inside each vehicle, highlighting the key features that earned each interior its honor.

KIA MOTORS CHALLENGES BASKETBALL FANS TO TEST THEIR DUNKING SKILLS AGAINST NBA ALL-STAR BLAKE GRIFFIN IN 3-D FACEBOOK GAME

Kia Motors’ global ambassador, NBA All-Star Blake Griffin, is well-known for his monster slams, and now basketball fans can attempt to out-dunk him in the “Take on Blake Dunk Challenge” 3-D Facebook game.  The “Take on Blake Dunk Challenge” brings the time-traveling experience of Kia’s humorous Optima television commercials online as players attempt to dunk their way to the top against four generations of Blake Griffin.  The game consists of four levels of increasingly difficult gameplay as the “Blake” they must beat (Kid Blake, Young Blake, Teen Blake and Present-Day Blake) becomes older and more skilled.   As part of game personalization, players are encouraged to customize their jersey by selecting their favorite NBA team and take screenshots of their most impressive dunks to share with Facebook friends. 

To further engage and reward players, from today through June 2, Kia will launch a supporting “Take On Blake Dunk Challenge” sweepstakes (takeonblakesweepstakes.com/#rules), giving fans the chance to win a variety of NBA prizes, including Blake Griffin autographed basketballs authenticated by Panini; travel and tickets to the NBA Finals or NBA Draft presented by State Farm; and an all-inclusive grand prize trip for two to Los Angeles for a personal meet-and-greet with Blake Griffin, subject to official rules.  Top prizes are unlocked as more people play the game providing a compelling incentive for social media sharing.
