There are quite a few ways to prepare your car for safer driving in the winter. Today’s Monday Maintenance Tip is: Check your tire pressure

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Tire-pressure-1
Here are two good reasons to get down there with the gauge and unscrew the valve caps as the weather cools:

1) Tires lose a pound of pressure for every drop of 10 degrees Fahrenheit.

2) An underinflated tire won't "bite" through snow down to the pavement as well as one at pressure. It's similar to hydroplaning on water -- and just as dangerous. You may have heard the guidance to let air out of your tires for sand or snow to get more contact surface area. That only applies only if the surface is bottomlessly soft, like a beach or foot-deep, unplowed snow -- not the mix of cleared road, ice and packed snow most of us encounter in daily driving.

Don't forget to put the valve caps back on (or, buy new ones) when you're done. Letting in moisture, which then freezes, could let the valve core leak out air.

A very big "thank you" to Sierra L., for this outstanding review! Keep up the great work, April!

Consumer Guide names 2013 Kia Sorento to coveted “Best Buy” list!

Kia Motors America (KMA), one of the fastest-growing car companies in the U.S., has been honored by having its best-selling CUV, the U.S.-built Sorento, named to Consumer Guide’s® annual “Best Buy” list.  Consumer Guide® makes its selections by evaluating vehicles on all aspects of a consumer’s real-world driving and ownership experience.  The Sorento was selected for having a number of outstanding key attributes in the Midsize SUV category.

“Sorento earns our respect for its excellent ride and handling balance, upscale features and reasonable price,” said Tom Appel, publisher of Consumer Guide®.  “The available third-row seating and great warranty coverage are added bonuses.”

This year, a more focused evaluation process from the Consumer Guide® editorial team required vehicles to meet higher criteria in order to be recognized.  The result was a shorter and more prestigious “Best Buy” list than in previous years.  “We’re honored that Consumers Guide® has named one of our top-selling models as a ‘Best Buy,” said Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing & communications, KMA.  “The Sorento is a cornerstone for the Kia brand and is a flagship among family vehicles, offering world-class sophistication, value, safety and comfort.  Furthermore, we’re proud that this exceptional CUV is built right here in the U.S.”

Each year, Consumer Guide’s® staff drives nearly 200,000 miles to properly evaluate the pros and cons of vehicles in multiple categories.  The vehicles are test-driven in the city, on highways, in rural areas and put to virtually all aspects of everyday driving to give consumers a total picture of how each model performs.

Good afternoon, everybody! Today's Monday Maintenance Tip is: Maintain your car’s battery.

Batterry1
Maybe the manufacturer says your battery is maintenance free, but don’t you believe it! Check your battery regularly to extend its life and avoid the hassle of being stranded with a dead battery.
• Begin with the simple: keeping your battery clean. A dirty case can actually cause current to drain. Wipe with a damp rag. Use a mild detergent if necessary.
•  Next, clean the battery posts or terminals. Loosen and remove the negative cable (black or minus sign) first, then the red positive cable. Use a brass wire battery brush dipped in a paste made from a few tablespoons of baking soda and a little water.
•  Inspect the battery case for damage, such as cracks or bulges — signs that a battery needs to be replaced.
•  Reinstall the cables, positive first, and coat the terminals and clamps with a thin coating of grease to prevent new corrosion.

A very big thank you to Lindey T., for this outstanding review! Keep up the great work, April and Jim!

Kia pro_cee’d GT and cee’d GT set to Launch in Europe mid-2013

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Pro_ceed-11
Kia’s first high performance models, the three-door Kia pro_cee’d GT and the five-door Kia cee’d GT, will go on sale in mid-2013.
The two new GT models will be powered by a new version of Kia’s 1.6-litre GDI (gasoline direct injection) engine, equipped with a twin-scroll turbocharger and strengthened internal components.
Power and torque outputs are dramatically increased.  Maximum power is 204 ps, up 51% over the non-turbo engine, with torque up 61% to 265 Nm.
Fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox, the new models’ performance targets include 0 to 100 kph acceleration in just 7.9 seconds.
Significant developments to the chassis and suspension systems will ensure that the performance credentials of these more powerful models are matched by exceptional dynamic characteristics.
To stand out from their sister cars, Kia’s pro_cee’d GT and cee’d GT models will incorporate unique features that highlight the more emotionally-charged driving experience that they offer.
New grilles and lamp clusters, deeper bumpers, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers and special paint finishes will result in a striking, more purposeful exterior.  The look of the GT models is also distinguished by pairs of jewelry-like, four-point LED daytime running lights, which give added character and presence, as well as aiding safety.  For the interior, the addition of Recaro sports seats, alloypedals and bespoke surface materials will create an engaging, performance-oriented ambience for the driver and passengers.
Production of the Kia pro_cee’d GT and cee’d GT is scheduled to begin at Kia’s manufacturing facility in Zilina in mid-May 2013, with cars going on sale across Europe from mid-year.  Prices and specifications will be confirmed closer to the on sale date.

Hello, everyone! We hope you all had a nice weekend! Well, December is upon us and we have a seasonal Monday Maintenance Tip for you! Today's tip: Run your AC in winter.

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Auto-air-body-shop-scottsdale
To keep your car’s air-conditioning system fit for the next warm season, run it a few times throughout the winter. This will prevent moving parts in the compressor from seizing. Also, circulating the refrigerant will help keep the seals soft and pliant.
