KIA RACING TAKES SECOND AT INAUGURAL CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS PIRELLI WORLD CHALLENGE EVENT

AUSTIN, Texas, May 20, 2013 – Like a bull rider in a Texas rodeo, Mark Wilkins grabbed the reins of his No. 38 turbocharged Optima and rode it to a well-deserved and hard-fought second-place finish Sunday in Round Five of the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) at the world-renowned Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas.  The relentless Texas heat wreaked havoc on drivers and tires alike, but Wilkins managed the race well from the driver’s seat and held off Jack Baldwin’s hard-charging Porsche Cayman S for the second step on the podium after a late caution flag bunched up the field of 51 cars with less than 10 minutes to go.

“It was a great weekend for Kia Racing. To grab our first podium of the year feels darn good. The Kinetic crew did an awesome job preparing the No. 38 Optima, and the adjustments they made for Sunday’s race paid dividends,” said Wilkins, who had never driven COTA until this weekend.  “We learned a lot from Round Four on Saturday about tire wear, so on Sunday we focused on being patient and more consistent with the car.  The Optima performs so well that, naturally, you want to push it, but we had to make sure we had traction left at the end of the race, and I think our results show that we did a good job of tire management on Sunday.”

Wilkins’ podium finish moved him up from fourth to third in the Driver Championship as the series turns to another doubleheader weekend in Detroit at the end of May.

Teammate Nic Jönsson drove his No. 36 turbocharged Optima to fifth place in Round Four on Saturday, following fourth-placed Wilkins across the line.  Kia Racing’s momentum continued into Sunday, with the Optimas running third and fourth throughout much of Round Five’s 50-minute contest. With a little over 10 minutes remaining, however, a full-course caution bunched up the field, and on the ensuing restart, Jönsson made heavy contact with the second-place Camaro heading up the hill into turn one.  The jarring hit broke the front-right suspension and brake rotor, and Jönsson subsequently collided with the race-leading Camaro, damaging his own car to such an extent that he was unable to continue.  Jönsson was credited with a 22nd-place finish and slipped to ninth in the Driver Championship.

“We had a really good car Sunday, and after the caution flag, I felt like we had something for the GTS leaders; I had been saving the tires for the end and this was my chance to make a move,” said Jönsson, who was running third at the time of the incident.  “I had a run on the second-place car heading up the hill, but everyone is battling for every inch of race track out there and we just got together.  Once that happened, I lost my brakes and couldn’t avoid further contact.  It’s unfortunate I collected Lawson while he was in the lead.”

Kia Motors America remains third in the Manufacturer point standings following COTA as the PWC series now turns to the Motor City on May 31-June 2 for Rounds Six and Seven.

Televised coverage of Rounds Four and Five from Circuit of the Americas is scheduled to air Sunday, June 16 at 5 p.m. ET on the NBC Sports Network.

SOUL RANKED HIGHEST IN ITS SEGMENT IN STRATEGIC VISION’S TOTAL QUALITY INDEX STUDY

IRVINE, Calif., May 17, 2013 – Kia Motors America (KMA) has been one of the fastest-growing car companies in the U.S. over the last five years1, and its edgy urban passenger vehicle, the Soul – a key factor in that growth – was recently named to Strategic Vision’s 2013 list of Total Quality Vehicles. The list, compiled after consulting with new car buyers, reveals the fierce competition between brands to improve quality and win customer loyalty. The Soul was chosen by consumers as the leader in the small multi-function segment after receiving the highest Total Quality Index® (TVI) score.

“Since its release in 2009, the Soul has been a prime example of Kia’s commitment to providing our customers with vehicles that feature world-class design, inspired driving dynamics and cutting-edge technology, all at an impressive value,” said Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing & communications, KMA. “The Soul being named as a Strategic Vision ‘Total Quality’ vehicle really illustrates how far the Kia brand has come in a relatively short period of time.”

New vehicles were evaluated by 17,000 buyers who purchased 2013 models from September to November 2012.  These owners were surveyed to designate Strategic Vision’s 14th annual Total Quality leaders. “Kia Soul being a leader in this segment is substantial, as the ‘Small Car Multi-Function’ segment is highly competitive and really requires that the leader have a great emotional impact on owners along with its superior quality features.  Kia Soul provided all of this and more, as customers reported in our comprehensive study,” stated Alexander Edwards, president of Strategic Vision.

KIA ANNOUNCES COMPLIMENTARY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE PROGRAM FOR THE ALL-NEW 2014 CADENZA PREMIUM SEDAN

Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced a complimentary scheduled maintenance program available for the all-new 2014 Cadenza premium sedan.  The program covers the first five factory-scheduled service appointments and is applicable for 36 months or 37,500 miles.  The program highlights yet another way Kia is elevating value to new levels of sophistication and promises to further differentiate the Cadenza from its competition.

“The Cadenza competes in a class in which customers have higher expectations for their ownership experience. Our complimentary scheduled maintenance program – a benefit many would not have previously associated with the Kia brand – fulfills those expectations,” said John Crowe, vice president of service and after sale operations, KMA.  “The program helps differentiate the Cadenza from its competition and illustrates Kia’s intentions of launching a credible contender into the emerging space between mainstream and luxury.”

Already a tremendous value at a starting MSRP of just $35,1002 (not including $800 destination), the Cadenza packs power, technology and refinement in Kia’s first full-size sedan, and the newly announced complimentary scheduled maintenance program only adds to the vehicle’s value proposition in its segment.  Complimentary scheduled maintenance is available to customers who either purchase or lease3 a new 2014 Cadenza and complete the maintenance work for their vehicles at participating Kia retailers.  The complimentary scheduled maintenance program, which excludes wear and tear items such as tires and brakes, is another benefit along with Kia’s industry leading 10 year/100,000 mile new-car warranty and Roadside Assistance4.

UVO eServices Makes Complimentary Scheduled Maintenance Easy
As Kia’s most technologically advanced vehicle, the 2014 Cadenza comes standard with UVO eServices5, which makes scheduling service appointments easier than ever. UVO eServices monitors service intervals and will alert the owner when it’s time to schedule an appointment at a Kia retailer.  Following on-screen prompts, the system has the ability to contact the retailer and schedule service appointments at the owner’s convenience.  UVO eServices is an enhanced telematics suite that offers a number of safety, maintenance and infotainment functions, including Automatic Diagnostics6, Manual Diagnostics, Scheduled Diagnostics, vehicle maintenance, and eServices Guide, many of which are run through the owner’s Smartphone7 equipped with the UVO eServices app, which is available at no charge8.

Through the UVO eServices owner's portal, known as "Car Care Web," owners can check vehicle diagnostics, vehicle status, maintenance schedules, driving behavior, and schedule appointments with their preferred or nearby Kia retailer via their home computer or mobile device.  If UVO's eServices identifies a problem by way of the Automatic Diagnostics function, it will communicate the vehicle's issue(s) and its location to Kia's 24/7 call center or will schedule an appointment online with the nearest Kia dealership upon the owner’s request.  Additionally, the user can take advantage of Scheduled Diagnostics from their Smartphone, setting a monthly diagnostic check of the vehicle.  Upon completion, any issues found are automatically forwarded to Car Care Web.

2014 Kia Sedona: Kia’s Popular Family Hauler Returns with Thoughtful Updates and Premium Features

The value-friendly Sedona returns to the Kia line up for 2014, combining practical convenience, modern amenities and a long list of safety features, offering families on-the-go comfort, utility and peace of mind.  Updated for 2014, the Sedona has won over media and consumers alike with its feature-rich content and powerful engine, making it a capable contender in the minivan segment.
Available in two trims, LX and EX, the 2014 Sedona incorporates an updated front bumper and grille, showcasing a sleeker appearance.  Other enhancements include 17-inch multi-spoke wheels (standard on EX, optional on LX), LED positioning lights and standard fog lamps across both trims.  All interiors now feature a unique storage console for iPads®1 and smart tablets, while the EX cabin offers standard leather trimmed seats, front seat heaters and automatic climate control.  The 2014 Sedona remains packed with power with its standard 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 269 horsepower and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic® clutchless shifting.  The functional Sedona LX minivan begins at $25,9002 MSRP, plus $850 destination charge, and offers a number of standard convenience features, including air conditioning, SiriusXM Satellite Radio3, Bluetooth4 wireless technology with voice recognition, MP3 connectivity and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.  The uplevel Sedona EX begins at $30,900 MSRP plus destination charge.

Abundance of Standard Safety Features
Sedona offers consumers invaluable protection provided by an extensive list of standard safety features on the 2014 model, including six standard airbags (dual advanced front and front seat-mounted side air bags, full-length side curtain air bags for all three seating rows); active front headrests; and a four-channel, four-sensor Antilock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), which takes into account vehicle load and weight distribution and applies the appropriate stopping force.  The EBD system adapts to individual wheel grip conditions to help improve both control and stability.  Additional standard safety equipment for Sedona includes a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a Traction Control System (TCS).

In conjunction with the ABS, the TCS uses brake and engine torque intervention to enhance traction during launch and acceleration on slippery road surfaces.  If the ABS system detects wheel slip, it signals the engine control unit to adjust engine torque output accordingly.  TCS also senses when one or more wheels spin faster than the vehicle's speed, and if necessary, applies the brakes to that wheel or wheels.  Working together, the two systems limit wheel spin and help the driver maintain control.

Working with the standard ABS with EBD and TCS, the ESC system can apply individual brakes selectively to help control oversteer and understeer as needed to help the driver maintain control on slippery surfaces or during certain emergency maneuvers.

Powerful and Fuel-Efficient Performance
Sedona's 3.5-liter V6 engine is standard on all models and produces an impressive 269 horsepower and 246 pound-feet of torque while offering fuel economy of 17/24 mpg5 city/highway thanks in part to the six-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic clutchless shifting that comes standard on both LX and EX trims.

Sedona's four-wheel independent suspension consists of MacPherson struts with coil springs and a stabilizer bar in the front, while the rear uses a multi-link design with coil springs and a stabilizer bar.

Stopping power comes from a power-assisted four-wheel-disc braking system with large-diameter vented front disc brakes (11.7 inches) and solid rear disc brakes (11.9 inches).  Sedona models come standard with 16-inch steel wheels and 225/70R16 tires on LX models, with optional 17-inch alloy wheels.  Seventeen-inch alloy wheels fitted with 235/60R17 tires are standard on EX models.

Spacious, Comfortable and Functional
The seven-passenger Sedona's generous dimensions and unibody construction offer impressive and functional passenger and luggage space and sophisticated ride and handling.  Adding to its space and versatility, flip-and-fold second row seats provide easy access to third row seating.  A simple-to-operate 60/40-split folding-into-the-floor third row seat also is standard on all models to create a flat cargo area.

All Sedonas continue to maintain Kia's traditional value proposition by offering a generous list of standard features and amenities.  In addition to the standard SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth wireless technology, ABS, six airbags and a six-speed Sportmatic transmission, the LX trim also comes standard with air conditioning, sliding doors with power windows, power mirrors and door locks, cruise control, an AM/FM/CD/MP3/Sat audio system that includes an auxiliary and USB-MP3 input jack, captain's chairs for the second row and keyless entry.  A Back-Up Warning System6 also comes standard and alerts the driver of an object in close proximity to the rear of the vehicle.

Moving to the EX trim adds leather trimmed seats, fog lamps, a heated six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, four-way power-adjustable passenger's seat, heated power mirrors, an eight-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with auxiliary input jack, auto-dimming rear view mirror with HomeLink®7, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power rear-quarter glass, trip computer with compass and a roof rack.  The EX trim also offers a standard rear-view-mirror camera display8 in addition to the Back-Up Warning System to help the driver better see surroundings and reverse more safely.
In addition to the LX and EX model standard equipment, the 2014 Sedona offers several optional packages for maximum convenience and entertainment.
  • The Power Package, available only on LX models, offers dual power sliding doors, automatic light control, 17-inch alloy wheels and auto-diming mirror with backup display and HomeLink®.
  • The Luxury Package, available on EX models, includes power sunroof, automatic rain sensing wipers, power-adjustable pedals, driver's memory seat and mirrors.
  • A navigation system also is available for the EX trim, which includes Infinity®9 premium audio and speakers.
